Power of the Cloud

Enterprise transformation with SaaS/Cloud computing is occurring on a daily basis. More organizations today are migrating one or more of their major business applications or process’s into the cloud! At this point in time, IBM and Microsoft are looking to place their future bets on cloud based delivery models, along-side currently cloud based companies Google and Salesforce.com. The consideration has shifted from questioning whether an organization should migrate to the cloud, to a decision on which cloud is best for your organization.

The reality is that the cloud environment is more secure, less expensive, and faster to market than traditional application development. Business applications that take 4 to 5 months to set up in a traditional delivery environment are now completed in a matter of weeks. The result is the ability to respond to business change at speeds unimaginable in any other environment. It creates the agile enterprise, an enterprise that most organizations are required to transform themselves to meet today's complex business world.

The key question lies within; which business process has the largest ROI to make the transformation. Most organizations are focused on storage, data housing, e-mail, and now core business applications such as CRM, Salesforce automation. From my perspective, voice is fairly low on the priority list, especially with the advent of instant messaging and the wide adoption of smart devices. The key around voice solutions, are investing in applications that can enable cloud solutions, and allow smart devices to work with your existing voice systems and platforms. These applications not only unify the communication experience, but make the transition down the road to a cloud-based voice infrastructure; seamless and painless.

In reality, voice has simply become the plumbing to connect and communicate. The drivers to real-time collaboration will be the applications that seamlessly make everything work together. As an example, if I am in Salesforce.com monitoring my business opportunities, I can see who is available in both my team and prospects and instantly communicate and collaborate between the 2 parties. This allows me to quickly and efficiently speed up our business process and move productive collaboration to completed tasks and processes. The idea of premise to cloud applications is to help facilitate organizational need to move to the cloud and start driving corporate efficiencies.
